The current search system is very limited. It will be replaced by a better one. I just cannot determine yet when it will happen, but it will certainly address that and other limitations.

Sorry for not following up. There was a tweak in that direction but it was not yet adding an option as you suggested. Let me explain what was improved.

After checking the documentation I noticed that the search results are already sorted by a weight factor that includes relevance and page date.

Also, in the package search result pages you can see a date which is the last time the package page was updated.

So despite it is not yet an explicit sort option, since it considers the package update date in the search weight factor, I hope it helps. What do you think?

hi Manuel,

thanks for responding

i tried a search for "tree" (cold be any other keyword) for example and most of the results from the first page are from 2010 or less.

i can't talk about the quality of the code from the classes (didn't test), but based on the advances from php most of those classes are irelevant in 2016 (or usable just as ideas)

so a select with two options "order by relevance" and "new first" would be great.

Sorry for the delay. I changed the date factor for the searches. So now it considers also the date of last class files update as a factor to weight besides keyword relevance and inbound links.

It does not always sort by date but that is one of the factors. Just let me know if it looks better.
